PM promises ‘comprehensive’ blood compensation
On Wednesday, Prime Minister announced that the government will provide a ‘comprehensive’ compensation scheme for victims of the contaminated blood scandal.
The scandal, which dates back to the 1970s and 1980s, saw thousands of people infected with HIV and hepatitis C through contaminated blood products from the NHS.
The Prime Minister’s pledge follows a public inquiry that found significant failures in the system and called for better support for those affected.
The compensation scheme is expected to include financial redress as well as access to support services for victims and their families.
Speaking in Parliament, the Prime Minister said, “It is our duty to right the wrongs of the past and ensure that those affected by this scandal receive the support and compensation they deserve.”
The government has faced criticism in the past for its handling of the contaminated blood scandal, with campaigners calling for action to be taken to address the lasting impact on victims’ lives.
